Generally, there are eight decks of cards used in baccarat games. The point values for the cards are one point for aces, zero points for face cards and 2-9 cards have pip value. When a new shoe starts one card is turned over by the dealer. This determines the number of cards that will be burned by the dealer. This depends on the baccarat value of the card except in the case of a face card or a 10, which results in 10 cards being burned.
The positioning of the cut card is 16 cards from the shoe’s bottom. When the cut card shows up then the hand will be finished by the dealer, one more hand will be played, and then a new shoe will be started. If the first card does not come out and the cut card does then the hand will be finished by the dealer and then a new shoe will be started.
The game of baccarat begins with the players deciding who to bet on. They may choose to bet on the banker or on the player, or they may bet on a tie. Some tables will even let you bet on a banker pair or a player pair.
Once the bets are placed then the player and the banker each receive two cards from the dealer. The score of each hand is determined by looking at the right digit of the cards’ total. An example of this would be that if there were two cards that were an 6 and an 8 then the total would be 14 meaning the hand would score a 4. It is not possible to bust in baccarat and the scores will always be between 0 and 9.
There are two rules that determine whether or not the paler or dealer will receive a third card. For example, if the player has a total of 5 or less then he may receive an extra card. Otherwise, he must stand. Also, the rule that overrides any other rule is if the banker or the player has a score of 8 or 9 then both players must stand. There are not other rules that will surpass this one so it is the most important to keep in mind.
Should the player stand then the banker will take a hit if he has a score of 5 or less. If the player hits then there are rules that apply to whether the banker may hit or stand.
